Arjun Tendulkar Can’t Bowl In Death Over: Simon Doull

Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull recently shared his thoughts on Arjun Tendulkar’s performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Tendulkar, who is playing his maiden IPL season, has featured in four matches for Mumbai Indians so far, claiming three wickets in the process.

Arjun Tendulkar

In his debut match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Tendulkar failed to make much of an impact. However, he bounced back in his very next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) where he defended 20 runs in the last over and also picked his maiden wicket in the league. Against Punjab Kings, Tendulkar had a tough outing as he conceded 48 runs in four overs. Nonetheless, he managed to take a wicket in Mumbai Indians’ most recent game against Gujarat Titans.

Simon Doull, who is a renowned cricket commentator and analyst, believes that Arjun Tendulkar is not yet ready to bowl in the death overs.

He also added that Tendulkar’s abilities are similar to those of Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar, who bowl two-to-three overs in the powerplay. Doull went on to say that Tendulkar’s lack of experience hinders his ability to bowl in the death overs.

“The last thing you want to do to a young man [Arjun Tendulkar] is throw him on the heap after one bad game because he has actually done a pretty good job. I don’t think in all honesty, and I think Rohit Sharma knows he is not really a death bowler as of yet. He is not a guy they should be bowling in the last four or five. But he went to him to give him an opportunity, and it cost them,” Simon Doull told Cricbuzz

It is worth noting that Tendulkar, who is the son of legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, has been making steady progress in his cricketing career. He has represented Mumbai at various age-group levels and has also played in some lower-level leagues. His inclusion in the Mumbai Indians squad was met with mixed reactions, with some questioning whether he deserved a spot in the team purely on merit.

However, Tendulkar has shown glimpses of his potential in the IPL so far, and it remains to be seen how he will fare as the tournament progresses. The IPL is known for giving young players a platform to showcase their talents, and Tendulkar will undoubtedly be looking to make the most of this opportunity.

“I think he is more like Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar, who bowl two to three overs upfront where it swings a little bit, and then you forget about it. He is not experienced enough at the moment to be bowling at the back end of the innings,” Doull said
