“Fixing Super Kings” – DC Fans Questioned Poor Umpiring

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) opener Devon Conway was leading a charmed life in the early parts of his innings against Delhi Capitals (DC) as he got two decisions in his favor from the on-field umpires.

Both were tight decisions but on both occasions, Devon Conway should have been given out. But the left-handed opener was saved due to some errors from the on-field umpire and even the third umpire.

On the first ball of the 3rd over of CSK’s innings, Conway edged Khaleen Ahmed’s length delivery to wicket-keeper Phil Salt, but was given not out on the field. While Salt conveyed that he didn’t hear anything, Khaleel said he had heard something, but DC didn’t opt for a review. Moments later it was revealed that Devon Conway had indeed edged the ball.

In the next over came the second reprieve from the umpires to Devon Conway. Off-spinner Lalit Yadav fired a full ball in the line of the stumps as Conway went down for a sweep. He missed it and the ball hit his pad. Lalit went up for a huge appeal, but the on-field umpire denied it.

Lalit convinced David Warner, the DC captain, to go for the review.

On ultraedge there seemed to be a very little murmur just after the ball had passed the bat. However, on the front camera angle, there was a gap between the bat and Conway’s glove. The third umpire, though, seem to ignore the gap between ball and glove, decided that there was a little bat involved and deemed Conway not out.

Replays of both these instances have been seen by fans who are calling out CSK, alleging to have bought the umpires and infleunced them to be in CSK’s favor.

Here is a tweet from a fan who wrote: “Chennai super kings should be named as FIXING Super Kings!!

Every Single Match they do Setting with umpires!!!

@IPL Ban this Fixer Team!!”

A few others agreed with this view.

Devon Conway couldn’t make much of his twin chances and was dismissed for 10 runs.
