A man, named Ravinder Singh, from Kanpur is absconding after losing his wife in a bet during IPL 2016. fellow gambler friends started troubling his wife to post an IPL playoff match. She approached social activists, who registered a complaint. Upon police questioning, it was revealed that Ravinder had literally bet his wife. Ravinder’s wife Jaspreet filed a harassment complaint in the Govindnagar Police Station yesterday.

SHO Ajit Kumar Srivastava said, “This is a very shocking case for us. A chat with his friends and wife revealed that he was a serial gambler, who attempted to extort money from her. Before absconding, he hit her in a bid to acquire Rs 7 lakhs. After three days of his absence, fellow gamblers made several calls to her. She immediately notified us.”
The SHO, Ajai Srivastava added, “we are taking this very seriously and the alleged perpetrator will be caught soon.”
