India’s Test captain Virat Kohli compares Shikhar Dhawan to Virender Sehwag

India’s Test captain Virat Kohli is mighty imperrssed with Shikhar Dhawan and he believes that the dashing opener can do what Virender Sehwag used to do at his prime i.e. change the course of a Test match with his aggressive batting, in just one session. Kohli, who had to settle for a draw against Bangladesh at Fattulah in his first match as India’s first-choice Test captain, said Shikhar is a very important member of India’s Test squad and his good form is always a big plus for the team. Virender Sehwag has not played for India since 2013 when he was dropped from both ODI and Test sides.

“For Shikhar, we were always confident that if he gets going in Test matches, he can do what Viru paaji (Sehwag) used to do because he is one player who can turn the session around. Hopefully, he will carry the confidence of this game into other series in future,” said Virat Kohli.

This is a very big compliment for Shikhar Dhawan as he struggled for form in the away Test matches in England and Australia.

Virat Kohli, who is now called ‘Captain Fearless’ said he is happy with the performance of his team, specially with the bowling performance. Kohli said he wants his team to play an aggressive brand of cricket. He also credited bowlers for bowling with a lot of intent.

“This is the way we want to play cricket. Just that we had just two days of proper cricket. One good thing to come out is the intensity shown in bowling. Everybody bowled with a lot of intent. That’s what we wanted to do as a team and we did that, so the credit goes to the bowlers who were willingness to do everything despite hot and humid conditions. There were no excuses and as a captain that was very pleasing,” said Kohli.
