In the first over of Day 2 of the WTC Final 2023, Steve Smith clipped a couple of half-volleys from Mohammed Siraj to bring up his 31st Test century. Soon after, the aggressive Travis Head reached the landmark of 150 runs, further making progress on his maiden overseas Test ton.
Even as India took 4 wickets in the first session on Day 2 at The Oval, Australia piled up another 95 runs to add to their tally of 327 runs on Day 1.
Mohammed Siraj and Shami were taken for quick runs and both crossed leaking 100 runs in Australia’s first innings.
Renowned Twitter account Trendulkar made a funny tweet on this event as Siraj and Shami conceded over 100 runs while Smith and Head scored their respective centuries.
Trolling the Indian pace duo, Trendulkar tweeted: “The match is evenly poised at this stage with 2 centuries by Smith & Travis and another 2 centuries by Siraj & Shami. #WTCFinal”
Fans had a good laugh at this joke from Trendulkar as the Aussies piled up some more misery on the Indians. At the time of writing, both Shami and Siraj have been India’s two most expensive bowlers and have leaked at the highest rate among the bowlers on show.
WTC Final: India make a comeback on Day 2 with 4 wickets

Steve Smith brought up his century in the first over of Day 2. Travis Head also brought up his 150, but the left-hander got out to Siraj, fending off a short delivery to KS Bharat. Shami got rid of Cameron Green while Shardul Thakur dismissed Steve Smith, played on, before Axar Patel’s direct throw brought curtains for Mitchell Starc.
At Lunch on Day 2, Australia are 422/7.
