The Controversial Catch: After a horrible batting collapse on Day 1 of the ongoing World Test Championship Final 2023, the Indian cricket team started the second innings with a lot of confidence and hope. However, on Saturday, Indian opener Shubman Gill’s dismissal to a Cameron Green catch in the second innings of the ICC World Test Championship final at the Oval in London triggered debates on Saturday.
It happened during the eighth over of India’s record 444-run chase when Australia seamer Scott Boland found Gill’s outside edge and Cameron Green lumped to his right side to hold onto the ball at 3rd slip.
Gill was caught by Cameron Green at slip-off Scott Boland. The catch sparked off a controversy as TV replays seemed to suggest that it had been grassed but the third umpire ruled the decision in favor of Australia. Soon after the third umpire’s decision, the crowd started booing and Shubman Gill had to walk back to the pavilion. Gill and India captain Rohit Sharma were not convinced by the decision as every run is important from here and every wicket is crucial for team India, in order to win the prestigious ICC WTC Final mace.

Meanwhile, the controversial catch has kickstarted a full-fledged debate on social media, with several experts and cricketers joining in. Among many, popular commentator and cricket analyst, Harsha Bhogle also took to his social media and expressed how Gill must be very disappointed right now. He wrote:
“It was a great effort from Cameron Green but it is the moment immediately after the catch is taken, when the hand turns, that must cause Shubman Gill to be very disappointed.”
