WTC Final 2023: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar congratulated the Australian cricket team after they defeated Team India to lift the World Test Championship mace on Sunday. The Pat Cummins-led side thumped India by a massive margin of 209 runs to win the WTC on Day 5.

Sachin Tendulkar Questioned R Ashwin’s Absence From Playing XI

After the final, Sachin Tendulkar took to his social media and gave a special mention to Steve Smith and Travis Head, who gave a solid start to their team to a good position during the first innings.

Tendulkar further questioned Team India’s decision to leave out Ravichandran Ashwin from the playing XI. He said:

“Congratulations to Team Australia on winning the #WTCFinal. @stevesmith49 and @travishead34 set a solid foundation on Day One itself to tilt the game in their favour. India had to bat big in the first innings to stay in the game, but they couldn’t. There were some good moments for Team India, but I fail to understand the exclusion of @ashwinravi99 in the playing XI, who is currently the number one Test bowler in the world.

Sachin emphasized the role of skillful spinners and how they use many variables to perform well in high-voltage games. He added:

“Like I had mentioned before the match, skillful spinners don’t always rely on turning tracks, they use drift in the air and bounce off the surface to disguise their variations. Not to forget, Australia had 5 left-handers out of their top 8 batters.”

India was given a huge target of 444 runs by Australia as the Pat Cummins side decided to declare their 2nd innings for 270/8 to set a mammoth target for India. Chasing the target, the Indian cricket team suffered a horrible batting collapse. None of the batters could get past the 50-run mark. Virat Kohli topped the score for India with 49 runs.

Notably, the Indian cricket team has gone 10 years without winning an ICC trophy. It was in 2013, under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, when team India lost and won the ICC trophy. Ever since then, India has been struggling to get their hands on an ICC title. Also, this was India’s second attempt at the WTC Final. They earlier lost the first world test final in 2021 against New Zealand in Southampton.
