6 Indian Batsmen Who Have Scored A Century In Both Innings Of A Test Match

Test cricket is considered the toughest format for both a batsman and a bowler, for there’s no escape for either and you need grind it hard through multiple days. It also gives a batsman two opportunities to showcase their talent and skill.

There is a list of indian batsmen who have scored centuries in both innings of a Test match. This feat has been achieved on 91 occasions in Test cricket, out of which 6 diffeent Indian batters to glorify in this list of great performances.

Here are the 6 Indian batsmen who have scored a century in both innings of a Test match:

Vijay Hazare

Former India batsman Vijay Hazare was the first Indian to record this feat of twin centuries in a Test match. He did it on India’s tour of Australia back in 1948 in the Adelaide Test.

Sir Don Bradman’s double hundred helped Australia score over 600 runs. In reply, Hazare 116, but couldn’t prevent the follow-on. Batting again, Hazare scored a grinding 145, yet India lost by an innings and 16 runs on Day 5.

Sunil Gavaskar

The legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar holds this great achievement of scoring a century in both innings of a Test match thrice!

This first instance was on his debut tour of the West Indies in 1971 where he battled the West Indies pace attack to register scores of 124 and 220 in Trinidad, the match ended in a draw. Then on two occasions in 1978, he did it again, scoring twin hundreds against West Indies in Kolkata and against Pakista in Karachi.

Rahul Dravid

First Indian batsman to hit two centuries in a Test match in the 21st century, and he did it twice in his career.

First, in the 1999 Test match against New Zealand at Seddon Park, his scores of 190 and 103* helping India draw the game. Then, in 2005 against Pakistan in Kolkata, his twin hundreds in the game going a long way in ensuring India’s victory by 195 runs.

Virat Kohli

India’s new generation superstar Virat Kohli played one of his greatest Test matches when he hit 115 and 141 in the epic, thrilling Adelaide Test against Australia on the 2014/15 tour. This was Kohli’s first match as India’s captain and he fought valiantly in the chase of 364 but India fell short by 48 runs.

Ajinkya Rahane

India’s middle-order backbone Rahane was in his prime form in 2015 and even a slow and spin-friendly track in the 2015 Delhi Test against South Africa didn’t stop him from recording scores of 127 and 100*, helping India win the Test by a massive margin of 337 runs.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma was given a second wind in his Test career as an opener in 2019, and he grabbed his opportunity with both hands by slamming 176 and 127 against South Africa in Vizag. India won the match comfortably by 203 runs and thus giving Rohit a new lease in his Test career.
