2013 was the last year when India won an ICC trophy and it came in England as the Men in Blue lifted the ICC Champions Trophy, beating England in the finale of the tournament. 3 overs from the finish line and it didn’t really look like India would be bringing the trophy. But then magic happened and Ishant Sharma out of everyone kickstarted a revolution like none other.

However if we take a look back at where the players are who won us the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, actually they are right in front of us. Here is how the team looked like and where they are.

Rohit couldn’t hit his straps in the final and got out for nine but since then he has come a long long way, racking up records at will. As a reward, he is the captain of the Indian cricket team and continues to spark hopes in the hearts of the fans.

#2 Shikhar Dhawan – still a leading batter of the country

Shikhar Dhawan looked good in the final and has smashed 31 off 24, blasting two fours and a six. He is somewhat fighting for a place in the upcoming 2023 World Cup and may very well land it, He is also a leading member of the IPL team, Punjab Kings after his fair shares in other teams.

#3 Virat Kohli – hope for Team India

Virat Kohli

The man who changed the shape of the game back then, still continues to do the same. He smashed 43 runs in the final and since then he has been India’s leading batter and till date, continues to drive the charge forward for the Men in Blue.

#4 Suresh Raina – said goodbye to international cricket but a part of the Legends League

A regular for the legends league, Suresh Raina was an instrumental part of the Indian cricket team back then. His contributions to the side though were questionable in the final. However, Mr. IPL did have his own shares of glory in the Indian cricket circuit and is known as the younger brother in the ranks of Chennai Super Kings.

#5 Dinesh Karthik – RCB staple, commentator and also stepping up for India

Dinesh Karthik also couldn’t really gun up the advantage for Team India in that final but then again, now he is doing pretty good as a commentator and still continues to drive the keeping ranks of RCB with his own brand of aggressive batting.

#6 MS Dhoni – one of the most respected Indian cricketers to date

The Indian captain who won it all, got out for a duck in the final but his captaincy stint was what helped India significantly in the final. Even today, whenever his name is being spoken, the entire nations stands up in respect. The man who has defined so many lives and so many memorable cricketing moments is one of the leading names in Indian cricket despite bowing out of international cricket.

#7 Ravindra Jadeja – India’s leading all-rounder

Sir Ravindra Jadeja

Jadeja was important in that final as he contributed both with the bat and the ball before proving to be electric on the field. He still continues to be India’s leading all-rounder and his contributions to the Indian cricket team have been tremendous.

#8 Ravichandran Ashwin – India’s leading off-spinner

Another name who was instrumental with the ball in his hands, Ravichandran Ashwin still continues to be India’s leading off-spinner and would be seen in action against West Indies. He was also a part of the WTC squad but didn’t get a chance to play.

#9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar – leading the lines in IPL and also a leading contender for India in white-ball

One of India’s star acts in white ball cricket and the only player to have won the Purple Cap thrice in IPL, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was in brilliant touch in that final. He would be expecting with hands on his heart that he makes the team for the World Cup in 2023.

#10 Ishant Sharma – staple for Delhi Capitals and still in the hunt for a India return

The man who was praised by Dale Steyn recently is still hot on the heels of making an Indian team return in the red-ball format. It was Ishant who changed the entire game with that magical over, claiming two set batters, leaving them out of the hunt, once and for all.

#11 Umesh Yadav – A KKR staple and still making his odd appearances for the Indian Test team

Umesh Yadav was in decent touch in the recently concluded IPL and continues to be an incoming bowler in the Indian cricketing circuit. However, his numbers have been dwindling of late and this is a sign of alarm for the experienced campaigner.
