5 Players SRH Might Release Before IPL 2021

Sunrisers Hyderabad is one of the most consistent and underrated teams in the IPL. Over the last five years, they have won one IPL trophy, reached the Finals twice, and qualified for the playoffs every single time. No other team has qualified for the playoffs every single time in this same period. One of the reasons for the success is the squad building. They tend to have great auctions where half the job is done which helps a team perform better on the field.

Picking players like Jonny Bairstow, Rashid Khan, and T Natarajan has taken their team to the next level. Once again they have had a great season but before the next IPL Auction, they might like to release some players so that they can get in new ones. So, let’s have a look at five players SRH might release before IPL 2021.

Basil Thampi

Basil Thampi had won the Emerging Player Award in IPL 2017. He was bowling some searing Yorkers which impressed a lot of people. SRH picked him in IPL 2018 but to be honest he hasn’t really delivered for them. In the pressure situation, he has failed to make a mark and has conceded a lot of runs. He is currently not making the XI for SRH which is not a good sign for the youngster. SRH might think of releasing him and get in a new young pacer who might perform better.

Siddarth Kaul

Siddarth Kaul with Bhuvneshwar Kumar used to form a great bowling pair in IPL 2017 and 2018. Kaul even got picked for India and played a couple of international games in the Indian colors. But in the last 12-18 months, he has failed to impress.

SRH has changed their fast bowlers a bit in this IPL but still, Kaul has got only one game which means he might not be bowling great in the nets as well. SRH has found a great death bowler in T Natarajan and hence they might release Siddarth Kaul and use that money either for a new bowler or a young batsman.

Indian fast bowlers like Thampi and Kaul have lost their place in the side because T Natarajan has sealed that spot with his outstanding show in IPL 2020.

Billy Stanlake

IPL 2018: Five good replacements of Billy Stanlake for Sunrisers Hyderabad

Billy Stanlake has been one of the future prospects for Australia. He did well for Australia in a couple of matches which he played. SRH picked him in 2018 when he played some matches for them but for the last two years, he hasn’t played a single game.

In last year’s IPL he struggled as batsmen were smashing him all over the park. He is not best suited for the shortest format. SRH might look to release him and get in a T20 specialist.

Fabian Allen

Fabian Allen is a left-arm spinner who smashes the ball at the end of the innings. He is a fearsome hitter and can clear the fence pretty easily. SRH picked him in the last year’s auction, but he hasn’t played a game this season. SRH has always had a problem of plenty with their overseas players.

Rashid Khan is always going to be the first-choice overseas spinner because he is the best in the world. They even have Mohammad Nabi as his back, so they might as well release Fabian Allen and try and get an overseas quick who can support the Indian pacers.

Mitchell Marsh

IPL 2020: Mitchell Marsh Ruled Out Of Tournament, Jason Holder To Replace Him In SRH | Cricket News

Mitchell Marsh was their first-choice overseas all-rounder for this year’s IPL but unfortunately, he got injured in the first game and was ruled out of the whole tournament. Jason Holder came in as his replacement and what a replacement he has been.

He is contributing in all the departments as he is picking up wickets at the start, in the death overs, he is scoring crucial runs and he is taking catches in the outfield. His performances are one of the reasons for their strong comeback in the second half of the tournament. SRH might release Mitchell Marsh and keep Jason Holder for the next season as well.
