A team that was once dominating the cricketing world, West Indies will miss the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to take place later this year. Yes, the two-time World Cup champions will not take the flight to India as they have failed to qualify for the marquee tournament.

Windies Failed To Qualify For The World Cup 2023

West Indies’ fate was sealed on Saturday (July 1) after they lost their Super Six fixture to Scotland by eight wickets at the Harare Sports Club. This is their third successive defeat in the competition, having lost their first two group-stage games to Zimbabwe and the Netherlands.

Brandon McMullen shone with bat and ball as Scotland defeated Windies to keep their hopes alive for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup dreams. Scotland defeated Windies in last year’s T20 World Cup as well.

McMullen claimed 3/32 before scoring 69 in the successful chase as Scotland got home with 6.3 overs to spare. Matthew Cross smashed the winning runs to finish unbeaten on 74.

With this defeat, West Indies’ chances of making it to India for the World Cup shattered into pieces. This will be the first time that West Indies won’t take part in the 50-overs World Cup. On the other hand, Scotland will now face two crunch encounters, starting against hosts Zimbabwe on Tuesday.
