India’s young talent Shubman Gill silenced his critics as he played an incredible knock of 126 runs in the 3rd and final T20I of the series against New Zealand. After a string of low scores in the format, several experts and cricketers questioned Shubman’s place in the squad and backed Prithvi Shaw to replace him in the playing XI, however, the 23-year-old not just made a strong comeback but also managed to etch his name in the record books.

Shubman Gill repaid Hardik Pandya and team management’s faith as he registered his maiden T20I century in the 3rd and final T20I of the series against New Zealand. He reached his century off just 54 balls, becoming the 5th Indian batter to score a T20I hundred. Gill displayed his array of shots, hitting the Kiwi bowlers to all the corners of the ground to score an unbeaten knock of 126 runs off just 63 balls, hitting 12 fours and seven sixes.

With this knock, Gill became the 5th Indian batter to score a T20I hundred as he joined Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan in the elite list.

Shubman Gill, who is hailed as the ‘future of Indian cricket’, is touted to carry forward Kohli’s batting legacy in the Indian team. As soon as Shubman’s knock came to an end, social media was buzzing with amazing reactions for the star batter, however, everyone was waiting for Virat Kohli’s reaction to it. Virat took to his social media and posted a picture with Gill with an epic five-word caption, where he hailed Gill as the future. He wrote: “Sitaara (Star). The future is here,”

With this century against New Zealand, Shubman Gill now has a hundred across all three formats of the game, becoming only the second-youngest batter to achieve this feat. Pakistan’s Ahmed Shahzad holds the record, as he breached the three-figure mark in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is at 22 years and 127 days.
