Young Indian opener Shubman Gill has managed to silence his critics, who pointed fingers at his place in the playing XI after he failed to translate his One Day International (ODI) form in the shortest format of the game in the first two games of the ongoing 3-match T20I series. Shubman Gill once again etched his name in the batting record books on Wednesday during the third and final T20I against New Zealand in Ahmedabad as he entered the elite list of Indian batters to score a century in the shortest format of the game.

Shubman Gill walked out to open the innings with the Indian captain Rohit Sharma. Though he started his innings a bit slower but the way he ended his knock was commendable. After reaching the half-century, Shubman switched gears and started attacking the Kiwi bowlers to all the corners of the ground. He featured in two major partnerships — an 80-run stand for the second wicket with Rahul Tripathi and a 103-run stand for the fourth with skipper Hardik Pandya, as he helped the Indian cricket team to post a total of 235 runs on the scoreboard.

Gill reached the triple-figure mark, which was also his maiden T20I hundred off just 54 deliveries, becoming the seventh Indian player to do so. Gill returned to the pavilion after playing an unbeaten knock of 126 runs off 63 balls, smashing 12 fours and 7 sixes.
