A lot was expected from Rohit Sharma when he took over the reins from Virat Kohli as India’s all-format captain last year. However, he has failed to leave a mark with his captaincy at the ICC tournaments, failing to end India’s ICC title drought. But ever since Rohit Sharma has taken over the reins from Virat Kohli as team India’s captain, the fortunes of several players have shone.
Recently, the BCCI announced the squad for the West Indies tour of India and three youngsters received their maiden call-up. While the move by appreciated by all, there were many who highlighted how several talented players were ignored yet again for the series.

Mayank Agarwal:
The first name on this list is Mayank Agarwal. Whether you follow India’s domestic cricket or not, the name Mayank Agarwal is hard for anyone to miss lately. The domestic cricket king has been out of the Indian squad for a long time now. Be it the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, or Duleep Trophy, Agarwal has been one of the most consistent performers for many years now.
He played his last international game for team India against Sri Lanka in March 2022. He was even dropped from the BCCI Annual Contract list this year. where he failed to leave a mark on his performance. Since then the selectors have not picked him for any series.
However, he didn’t let the pressure get to his head as he has been performing brilliantly in the domestic circuit. Recently, he was in the news for his brilliant performance in the Duleep Trophy 2023. Mayank Agarwal impressed everyone with his game in the match played against North Zone. He scored an inning of 76 runs in 115 balls in the first innings of this match. In the second innings, he scored 54 runs in 57 balls in the second innings. He was the highest run scorer for his side in both innings.
Sarfaraz Khan:
Sarfaraz Khan was ignored yet again by the BCCI selectors for the West Indies tour despite brilliant performances in the domestic circuit. Sarfaraz has played 37 matches in first-class cricket and has scored 3505 runs at an average of 79.65 with 13 centuries and nine half-centuries. His top score of 301 not out came against Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2020 match at the Wankhede Stadium.
Prithvi Shaw:
Prithvi Shaw, who has played 5 Tests, 6 ODIs, and 1 T20I for India National Cricket Team, hasn’t played for the Indian cricket team for a long time now. He is currently not in India’s scheme of things in Tests and ODIs. The last time he played for the Indian cricket team was in 2021 during India’s tour to Sri Lanka.
The 23-year-old cricketer has been going through a lean phase in his career. He was even seen struggling to score runs with the bat, playing for Delhi Capitals in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. He was even dropped from the team after his back-to-back poor performances. In IPL 2023, Shaw played 8 matches and scored 106 runs at an average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 124.71.
Meanwhile, he is all set to make his County Cricket stint after the completion of the ongoing season of the Duleep Trophy.
