Veteran England pacer Stuart Broad has revealed that he picked up a fight with the Australian cricketers on Day 5 of the Lord’s Ashes Test as a part of his strategy to help Ben Stokes. He revealed that he wanted to divert the attention of the Australian players from the England captain.

Stuart Broad Made A Big Revelation

It has to be noted that Ben Stokes was all set to replicate his heroics of 2019 in an even more challenging situation, however, he was dismissed for 155 runs with the England team still needing 70 runs to win the game. During his knock, Stokes displayed exceptional skills as he smashed the Australian bowlers to all the corners of the ground.

Speaking on Sky Sports on Tuesday, Stuart Broad said: “Sometimes I just like to get in a little battle for myself. I knew that it was such an important moment of that game at Lord’s and I needed to make sure I was mentally switched on and able to do a job for Ben Stokes at the other end,”

Stuart Broad added: “Part of my strategy was to pick a fight with a couple of Australians so I wouldn’t be focusing on too much technique. I would just be focusing on the ball and making sure I could stay there,”

After Ben Stokes’ dismissal, England’s lower-order batters quickly succumbed, which eventually led to Australia registering a 43-run victory and taking a 2-0 lead in the 2023 Ashes series. Amidst his knock, Stokes displayed exceptional skills as he smashed the Australian bowlers to all the corners of the ground. Broad has now revealed that it was all a strategy.

Meanwhile, talking about the ongoing Ashes series, England secured victory in the latest Ashes Test at Headingley, with Australia leading the series 2-1 heading into the final two matches at Old Trafford and The Oval. Ben Stokes and his team must win both the games to win the series.
