Yashasvi Jaiswal had a phenomenal start to his Test career as he became the 17th Indian to hit a century on his Test debut, and only the third Indian opener to do so after Shikhar Dhawan (2013 vs Australia) and Prithvi Shaw (2018 vs WI).
In the first Test against West Indies in Dominica, Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Test debut and made it count against a non-threatening West Indies bowling attack. By stumps on Day 2, the left-handed opener remained unbeaten on 143, after facing 350 balls.
These 350 balls faced by Jaiswal so far are already the most by an Indian in an innings on Test debut. The previous highest was 322 by Mohammad Azharuddin in 1984 during his 110 against England at Eden Gardens. Jaiswal is the first Indian batsman to score a debut Test hundred outside Asia since Virender Sehwag in Bloemfontein back in November 2001.
Yashasvi Jaiswal speaks on Rohit Sharma’s message to him before his debut

There may have been some palpitations before making his Test debut, even though he’s played plenty of IPL cricket. Yashasvi Jaiswal revealed that it was skipper Rohit Sharma who had kept him calm and given him some words of motivation before his debut.
“I spoke to Rohit bhaiyya quite a bit while batting. He kept telling me how we can play on this wicket and where the runs can come from. And even before the game, the way he told me ‘you have to do it, you are the only person’, I kept thinking about that and how I can get my runs,” the youngster said.
Speaking of his pre-game preparations, Jaiswal said “I thinks it’s about how I prepare mentally. Of course, fitness is very important. I try to follow my diet and discipline and try to stay in good shape. And I practice the way I need to prepare. I keep trying to bat according to possible scenarios and how I can do well on the team. The effort is to just try and play match-winning knocks.”
By stumps on Day 2, Jaiswal and Kohli are unbeaten and India have a lead of 162 runs.
