Jonny Bairstow Answers Back To The Crictics For Calling Him 'Rubbish'

Jonny Bairstow Answers Back To The Crictics For Calling Him ‘Rubbish’: In a recent interview with Sky Sports, English cricketer Jonny Bairstow expressed his exasperation over the barrage of criticism he’s encountered this summer. This comment follows his noteworthy 99-run performance from 81 deliveries during the third day of the fourth Ashes Test.

Bairstow’s stellar performance, combined with Mark Wood’s three wickets, propelled England towards victory. After Zak Crawley set the stage on the second day, Bairstow emerged as the star performer on the third day, falling just short of a well-deserved century. His explosive batting display highlighted his indomitable spirit with four sixes and ten fours that drew audiences in.

However, Bairstow’s inclusion in the team throughout the series has been a point of contention. His resurgence with the bat, reminiscent of his ‘Bazball’ form of 2022, certainly became a moment for him to cherish. During his chat with Sky Sports, Bairstow voiced his frustrations and startlingly revealed that a leg injury he sustained could have prematurely ended his career.

“I’m relieved to be playing again,” he said. “Some seem to believe I perform better under criticism, but frankly, it’s grown tiresome. If I were as ‘rubbish’ as they claim, I wouldn’t have completed 94 games.”

Bairstow also addressed his approach to the sport, emphasizing his desire to enjoy the game and entertain the audience. He acknowledged that his style of play might invite comments but preferred to leave the critics to their opinions, focusing instead on his performance in the field.

“People will say what they want, as they’re paid to have an opinion. Without it, they’d be jobless,” he stated. Bairstow also shared details of his long road to recovery, explaining that his return to the field was nothing short of miraculous, according to his surgeon.

“I haven’t been a wicketkeeper for three years. My ankle is held together by nine pins, a plate, and a wire. The nine-month hiatus was a rollercoaster of emotions. But stepping back onto the field with my teammates was special,” he reminisced.

Bairstow’s focus remains on the game and his role within the team. Despite external scrutiny, he believes the team has been consistent throughout the series. He expressed his pride in wearing the England shirt and declared that being selected for the Ashes series was a source of immense joy.

He sidestepped a question about his controversial stumping during the second Test at Lord’s, stating, “There have been some interesting dismissals. Just a couple of games ago, I scored over 70 runs. It is what it is.”

He credits his friends, family, and the unity within the team for his successful return. “The solidarity within the dressing room is extraordinary. We have a remarkable group of players who would fight tooth and nail for each other,” he said.

Bairstow remains optimistic about the future of Test cricket and his team’s place in it. “We will continue to play as we have been. We are aware of the direction we want to head in, and we recognize the bigger picture concerning the game of Test cricket,” he concluded.

This interview is a testament to Bairstow’s resilience in the face of criticism and adversity, highlighting his commitment to the sport and his team.
