Australia’s star batter David Warner has finally put an end to the speculations regarding his retirement from Test cricket following the final Ashes 2023 Test at The Oval. The rumors sparked after Michael Vaughan claimed that he had heard ‘whispers’ suggesting Warner might step away from the game after the Ashes series rather than continue on to the Pakistan series and a farewell in Sydney in January 2024.

Putting an end to all the speculations, Warner firmly denied any such plans and said: “No, not at all.”

Warner highlighted that he is currently focused on putting in the hard work during the practice session and playing to win the Ashes series. With the World Test Championship on his mind, Warner is keen to end the tour on a high note. Warner said:

“I haven’t seen anythingâ€æ I don’t have an announcement. For me it’s about trying to work hard in the nets as I did and if selected, go out there and play and try and win an Ashes series,”

Besides this, Michael Vaughan had also raised the possibility of Steve Smith’s retirement. Addressing that, Warned dismissed it as a joke. Warner said:

“Obviously, it’s a joke,” Warner said. “I won’t take that too seriously.”

Steve Smith, on the other hand, has been tight-lipped about his retirement plans, choosing not to entertain discussions about when he will announce his retirement from international career.
