Senior Indian batter Dinesh Karthik has made an outstanding comeback to the Indian team after three years away from the side. At the age of 37, Karthik is playing perhaps the best cricket of his career and is set to feature in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Before that, it was Dinesh Karthik’s different-than-usual helmet that once again got plenty of attention during the recent home T20I series against Australia, which India won by 2-1.
Why does Dinesh Karthik wears a differently designed helmet?

Whether when he’s batting or when he’s keeping, Dinesh Karthik’s helmet invariably stands out from the rest and becomes a talking point among fans who have showered loved over his headwear. His helmet is shiny and some fans said it is like a “blue sun” when he plays for India.
Dinesh Karthik’s helmet is dissimilar to most batters we have seen in the game and it resembles those which are worn by baseball and American football players. The design is such that it comes flat from back to front instead of the centre bulge as you see on other batters.
There are additional metal grills to guard to give an extra layer of protection. It is also believed that DK’s specially made helmet fit better on the head, is more ergonomically sound, and is lighter compared to the normal ones.
You must have seen the gaps and holes in his helmet on the top, sides, and back to provide him with better ventilation.
Dinesh Karthik’s wicket-keeping helmet, as we’ve seen in the past, resembles that of a baseball face protector.
Dinesh Karthik is not the only one who has donned this special and unique helmet. The likes of Rahul Tripathi, James Taylor, Michael Carberry, and former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara have also played with this design of helmets.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik was selected in India’s eleven against Australia ahead of Rishabh Pant and proved his worth by smashing 10* (2) in the Nagpur T20I to seal the win. Karthik next will be seen in action during the upcoming series against South Africa.
