After a long wait, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 on Monday. Led by Ajit Agarkar, the selection committee named a 17-member (+1 reserve) traveling party which will take part in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 which will be played in Sri Lanka and Pakistan from August 30.
Rohit Sharma Finally Announced The Much-Awaited Squad

Ahead of the squad announcement, there were a lot of speculations around Team India’s composition for the Asia Cup with the shuffling in the recently concluded Caribbean tour. However, the team management has managed to come up with a balanced squad for the marquee tournament.
There were major doubts regarding the fitness of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, both of whom have been recovering from a thigh and a back injury respectively. Both the cricketers have managed to make it to the squad. The return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has also come as a huge surprise for the Indian fans in the ongoing 3-match T20I series against Ireland. He has also been included in the 17-member squad for Asia Cup 2023.
Sanju Samson, who has failed to make the most of the opportunities he has been given, has been named as the reserve player for the Asia Cup 2023.
“Shreyas (Iyer) is declared completely fit. KL Rahul still has some niggle, hence (Sanju) Samson is travelling as a reserve.” Ajit Agarkar said
Tilak Varma has also received a maiden ODI call-up. The young batter has impressed one and all in his debut series against West Indies. The youngster looked technically sound and showed the intent and aggression required for the international stage.
“Tilak (Verma) showed real promise, temperament, good to take him along, fortunately, we can take 17 here so it is an opportunity for him to be a part of the team,” Ajit Agarkar said:
Prasidh Krishna, who returned for the Ireland series after a lengthy injury layoff, has also been included in the squad and he will be in the scheme of things.
As the World Cup 2023 is also a few months away, selection head Ajit Agarkar gave a hint that the squad for that tournament will be around this squad.
“No brainer. We picked 18, World Cup squad will be around this also.” Ajit Agarkar said.
