The BCCI has finally revealed its formidable 17-member squad for the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2023, along with the inclusion of traveling reserve player Sanju Samson. Though, the board has presented a well-balanced squad for the upcoming tournament, however, what has grabbed the attention of fans is the exclusion of the veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
Yuzvendra Chahal has been a prominent figure in the Indian cricketing landscape for years. While he has been ignored from the marquee tournament, Prasidh Krishna was chosen as the fifth seam bowling option. This decision has left many questioning the rationale behind it.
Yuzvendra Chahal Shared A Cryptic Tweet

During the press conference, BCCI’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar shed light on this decision, highlighting the insights that went into taking that decision. According to Agarkar, the selection committee faced a difficult choice between Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Ultimately, the committee decided to lean toward Kuldeep Yadav because of his recent performances. Agarkar said:
“Chahal is undoubtedly a terrific performer, but we had to carefully consider the overall balance of the team. Accommodating two wrist spinners in the squad would have posed significant challenges.”
Indian captain Rohit Sharma also talked about the decision and emphasized that the doors of opportunities are still open for all three potential spin bowlers — R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Washington Sundar, to prove their worth and make it to the ODI World Cup 2023 squad. Sharma said:
“Opportunities are still available for everyone, including Ravi Ashwin, Chahal, and Sundar, to be a part of the World Cup squad.”
Meanwhile, disappointed with his non-inclusion from the Indian squad, Yuzvendra Chahal took to his social media and reacted to his snub. In his Tweet, he shared two emojis of the sun, reflecting that ‘the sun will rise again’.
