Ruturaj Gaikwad notched up his second T20I fifty on Sunday in the 2nd T20I against Ireland, which helped India in their 33-run victory.
While Rinku Singh stole the headlines for his blockbuster finishing of 38 runs in 21 balls, Gaikwad’s knock of 58 runs from 43 balls, ladened with 6 fours and one six, helped India out of early trouble after a couple of early wickets fell. He set the platform for the likes of Rinku and Dube to finish with a flourish.
Ruturaj will be leading India in the Asian Games in China from 28th September. This will be his first-time captaining India.
Ruturaj Gaikwad reveals MS Dhoni’s golden advice about captaincy

But the youngster has learned plenty of stuff about captaincy from his CSK captain MS Dhoni. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been at CSK since 2019 and he made his IPL debut in 2020. He has been a regular part of the side since 2021, the season he bagged the Orange Cap as well.
Spending so much time under MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad said he has learned to not think too much about the past or future and try to stay in the present. He aims to instill the same when he will captain India for the first time next month.
“I think leadership role is a very complicated thing to be honest. What Mahi bhai always says is to take it one game at a time. Just be in the present moment, don’t worry about the future. Everyone creates hype and whatever it is. I am not the kind of person who do really watch social media and hear things about what anyone is saying about me. I think this is one of the traits that I have learned at CSK. I am pretty much clear about giving my best in the field, coming back home, chilling with my friends”, Gaikwad said.
The third T20I against Ireland is scheduled for Wednesday.
