What Is The New Dexa Scan That Virat Kohli And Team India Need To Pass

Team India Shifts Focus to Fitness Ahead of Asia Cup 2023 and the new Dexa Scan

Amid the intensity of preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023, Team India took a breather on their fourth day in camp. However, the day was far from unproductive. Instead of the usual on-field practices, players found themselves undergoing Dexa scans and attending team meetings at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The re-introduction of Dexa scans and the Yo-Yo test by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) marks a renewed emphasis on fitness. This focus comes on the heels of Team India’s T20 World Cup 2022 debacle and sets the tone for their approach to the World Cup 2023.

Understanding the Dexa Scan

The Dexa scan, or DXA Test, uses low-dose X-rays to measure various aspects of a player’s physical condition. Importantly, it evaluates bone density, a key parameter for physical fitness. In addition, the test assesses body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, and water content. Such detailed profiling allows trainers and physiotherapists to develop individualized fitness plans for players. The use of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry makes the test a comprehensive tool for evaluation.

BCCI’s Renewed Emphasis on Fitness

The Yo-Yo test, conducted on Day 1 of the Asia Cup camp, has long been a benchmark for cardiovascular fitness. Now, by re-introducing the Dexa scan, BCCI aims to take a holistic approach to players’ well-being. This move comes as part of BCCI’s strategy to prioritize fitness, especially with an eye on the 2023 World Cup. Consequently, the NCA collaborated with its trainers to develop a comprehensive program for evaluating players’ fitness levels.

Team Meetings Over Net Practice

While a day away from the nets might seem like a break, team meetings serve as essential platforms for strategy discussions. These gatherings allow for collective reflection on past performances and planning for upcoming challenges. With India set to face arch-rival Pakistan in their first Asia Cup game, such strategic meetings are more crucial than ever.

A Look Ahead

After concluding their six-day training camp on August 29, Team India will jet off to Sri Lanka on August 30. The real test will come when they lock horns with Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy. Given the historical rivalry and the weight of expectations, Team India needs to be at their physical and strategic best.

By focusing on comprehensive fitness tests, BCCI is making it clear that physical well-being is as significant as skill and form. Such diligence is crucial when the end goal is the World Cup 2023. Moreover, the incorporation of team meetings and individualized fitness plans based on Dexa scan results shows a multi-pronged approach to preparation. In the competitive world of international cricket, every advantage counts. Team India seems to be leaving no stone unturned to ensure they are fully prepared, both mentally and physically, for the challenges that lie ahead.
