Indian out-of-favor opener Prithvi Shaw played another sensational knock as he registered his second first-class double century against Assam in the Ranji Trophy match in Guwahati. After Mumbai lost the toss, they came out to bat first at the picturesque Amingaon cricket ground which was hosting its first first-class match. Prithvi walked out to bat with all guns blazing and started smashing the bowlers from the word ‘go’. He raced away to a sublime century before Lunch.
After the break, Shaw continued with his destructive power hitting and went onto reach his double hundred. As of writing this report, Shaw is unbeaten at 206. His last first-class double century came against Baroda, back in 2019. And almost three-and-a-half years later, Shaw displayed his natural game and strokeplay to register another milestone in his career.
Shaw forged an amazing unbroken partnership of 200 runs with captain Ajinkya Rahane to put Mumbai in the driver’s seat. Making the most of the opportunity, Shaw and Rahane took their time before smashing the Assam bowlers to all the corners of the ground.
While Shaw drove and cut fluently, smashing as many as 33 boundaries during his knock, on the other end, Rahane held the fort and played the role of second fiddle.
Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with amazing reactions from fans who are hailing the brilliance of Prithvi. There were many who slammed the BCCI for ignoring a talent like Shaw. For the unversed, though he has been performing consistently in domestic cricket, however, he has been out of the national side for over a year now. He made his comeback for the Sri Lanka tour in 2021. His white-ball form saw him make a comeback on the Test side as well. But he wasn’t included in the final XI during the England series and following that he is yet to earn a recall.
Check out the reactions of the fans:
Prithvi Shaw has smashed a hundred before lunch on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy. Another reminder to selectors that how some of his best years are being squandered.
Yes, Rohit & Gill must be frontline openers in Tests for now. But why is he not picked for T20Is? #RanjiTrophy

It has been a gritty knock by Prithvi Shaw. Forged a solid 123-run opening stand with Musheer Khan and has now scored his 12th First-Class century.
