Following his brilliant 67* against Nepal on Monday in Pallekele, young India opener Shubman Gill had significant strides in the ICC Men’s ODI Batsman rankings. With this jump, Shubman Gill has decreased the distance between himself and the number 1 ranked ODI batsman, the Pakistan captain Babar Azam.
Following his brilliant unbeaten half-century in a must-win game against Nepal, Shubman Gill reached a career-best rating of 750 rating points and is now placed 3rd on the ICC Men’s ODI Batsman Ranking.
Ranked 3rd, Shubman Gill chasing Babar Azam in ODI batsman ranking

At the first position remains Babar Azam, who had cracked a century against Nepal earlier in the Asia Cup 2023. And on the second position is South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen.
Babar Azam has rating points 882 and holds a massive lead over van der Dussen and Shubman Gill, but the two batters could close on it in the coming weeks as India play more games in the Asia Cup and the ODI series against Australia at home while South Africa are also hosting Australia in an ODI series this week.
Another India batsman who has made a rise in the ODI batsman ranking is Ishan Kishan, who sparkled with 82 runs against Pakistan in what was perhaps his best ODI knock in his career so far. Ishan Kishan now has 624 rating points and is ranked 24th.
Virat Kohli is placed at the 10th position in ICC ODI batsman ranking.
Coming to the bowling rankings in ODIs, Josh Hazlewood leads the chart with 705 rating points, followed by teammate Mitchell Starc, who has 686 rating points.
In the bowling ranking in ODIs, Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi moved up one spot courtest of his terrific four-wicket haul against India, which included wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja. Shaheen Afridi now is placed 5th in the ODI bowling ranking. Afridi’s teammates Haris Rauf (up 14 to equal 29th) and Naseem Shah (up 13 to 68th) have also made big gains.
Bangladesh captain and superstar all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan continues to top the ICC Men’s ODI all-rounder rankings with 372 points, followed by Mohammad Nabi and Raza.
