Senior commentator Harsha Bhogle recently shared the invitation letter he received for his first-ever commentary gig in 1983.

Harsha Bhogle completed 40 years in the cricket broadcasting industry, a journey that started on 10 September 1983 in an India vs Pakistan game in Hyderabad, which is also Bhogle’s hometown.

Harsha Bhogle is one of the most famous and well-known commentator Indian commentators in India and in the world who has graced the mic for four decades now. Known as the ‘Voice of Cricket’, the 62-year-old Harsha Bhogle is loved and adored by all for his melodious voice and takes on cricket and in general life.

In his post, he shared the offer letter from Doordarshan Hyderabad and expressed his gratitude to the producer who gave him this opportunity.

Sharing the letter for an invitation for a commentary stint in the IND vs PAK game in 1983, Bhogle captioned: “40 years ago today. My first ODI. Still remember that young man trying frantically to get opportunities. And a kind producer from DD-Hyd giving him this break. I sat on a roller the previous evening, in a simple t-shirt, doing the curtain raiser. And got two commentary stints the next day. Over the next 14 months I got to do two more ODIs and a test match. Gratitude.”

Bhogle is a trailblazer, a pioneer, a trendsetter of non-cricketers making it to the commentary box. He entered the commentary field with no international cricket experience and has faced huge challenges over the years that former cricketers didn’t have to face. But he worked hard on learning the game, and also he was smart in understanding his role and duty in the presence of ex-cricketers who were directly put in commentary boxes by the virtue of being former players.

For many fans, Harsha is not only the best Indian cricket commentator, but also the best storyteller. He has come up with over a dozen gems in the commentary box that have gone viral in the social media age. With his sweet, melodious voice, and his intellect, Harsha Bhogle has won the hearts of every cricket fan.
