Rohit Sharma, captain of the Indian cricket team, just reached a significant milestone that will go down as one of the game’s all-time greats. He joined an exclusive club, becoming just the sixth Indian and the 15th player in history to achieve 10,000 runs in ODIs. With this feat, Rohit has cemented his place as one of the game’s greatest players of all time.

For India, Rohit Sharma’s 10,000th run came in a memorable encounter against Sri Lanka in the Super Four round of the Asia Cup in Colombo on March 23, 2023. The fact that he achieved it in only 241 innings places him as the second-fastest cricketer in history to reach this milestone.

Rohit Sharma followed in the footsteps of cricket greats as he passed the 10,000-run mark. He was quicker than several other notable cricketers, including Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly, Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni, and even his own coach, Rahul Dravid. Rohit completed this feat 18 innings sooner than Tendulkar, 22 innings before Ganguly, 25 innings before Ponting, and a staggering 32 innings before Dhoni. Behind him are batting greats like Brian Lara (278 innings), Chris Gayle (282 innings), Rahul Dravid (287 innings), and Tillakaratne Dilshan (293 innings).

When Rohit Sharma set out to reach 10,000 runs, he was also on a mission to rewrite records. He also became the Asia Cup’s all-time leader in sixes with one hit during the same game. This outstanding success is only another notch in his already impressive belt. The milestone day was not the first step in Rohit Sharma’s path to the 10,000-run club. It was the result of years of practice, planning, and cricketing brilliance. Rohit came out swinging from the get-go, making his intentions clear. He immediately displayed his skill by slicing a half-volley past the covers for a boundary on the second ball he faced.

But Sri Lankan bowlers Maheesh Theekshana and Kasun Rajitha swiftly adjusted their line and length, making Rohit struggle for every run. Despite this, Rohit kept his strike rate at 75, demonstrating both dignity and resolve. Charith Asalanka’s error at the boundary led to his second boundary, although Rohit’s aim was clear. Creating space, he deflected a couple of Rajitha’s deliveries down the leg side for wides. After a few of wides, Rohit smashed a powerful shot down the ground for a six.

That peak seemed to be the tipping point that triggered Rohit’s beast mode. Rohit pounded Dasun Shanaka for four boundaries in one over, causing him a lot of trouble. While opening the innings, Rohit and Gill achieved a mind-boggling 1000 runs together, making their partnership a historic one. They scored 1046 runs (at an average of 913) in only 12 innings, including five partnerships of 50+ and four of 100+.
