Danish Kaneria Attacks Ramiz Raja After His U-Turn To Travel To India For The World Cup 2023

Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria has recently came forth to criticise former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja. What is the point of contention? Ramiz Raja’s choice to travel to India as one of the ODI World Cup commentators. Kaneria, renowned for his blunt opinions, did not mince words in pointing out the obvious contradiction between Ramiz’s previous declarations and his present conduct.

During his stint as PCB chairman, Ramiz Raja was insistent that the Pakistani cricket team, dubbed the “Men in Green,” would not visit India for the ICC tournament unless India reciprocated by hosting the Asia Cup in 2023. However, with the ODI World Cup approaching, Ramiz seems to have changed his mind, deciding to join the commentary team for the competition, which will be held in India.

Kaneria, who isn’t afraid to speak himself, made his position plain in his newest YouTube video. He voiced his dissatisfaction in this video, stating, “Ramiz Raja said Pakistan won’t travel to India for the World Cup, but he himself is doing commentary in India for money. He had made some bold claims. I believe when you make such statements, you should stick to your words. It is a matter of self-respect. If he had said that Pakistan wouldn’t go to India, he should have rejected the offer to do commentary. I didn’t like this U-turn.”

Kaneria’s comments generated debate among cricket lovers and fans throughout the world, with many offering their own perspectives. Some feel that powerful people, like Ramiz Raja, should stick to their views and values, particularly when it comes to international cricket relations.

Notably, Ramiz Raja’s tenure as PCB chairman came to an abrupt end. It happened after Pakistan’s 0-3 Test series defeat to England in December 2022 at home. This series defeat was a severe blow for the Pakistani squad, prompting the PCB to oust Ramiz as chairman.

Another big cricketing event, the Asia Cup 2023, witnessed the use of a novel hybrid paradigm. Sri Lanka and Pakistan eventually co-hosted the tournament. While Pakistan was able to host four matches on their own turf, all of India’s matches, including the final, were held in Sri Lanka. This was a break from the Asia Cup’s regular structure, which rotated between India and Pakistan.

Finally, Danish Kaneria’s open criticism of Ramiz Raja’s choice to commentate in India despite his prior views has sparked a discussion among cricket fans. The incident underscores the significance of consistency and ideals in international sports diplomacy. As cricket fans prepare for the 2023 ODI World Cup, the discussion over Ramiz’s behaviour continues to heat up.
