New Zealand cricketer Glenn Phillips turned into a golden arm as he took two important wickets in the World Cup 2023 opener against England.

A part-time off-spinner, Glenn Phillips made two massive strikes for his team by taking the wickets of Moeen Ali and Joe Root. Phillips’ celebration after taking the wicket of Root has gone viral. It also underscored the importance of Root’s wicket, the senior England batsman having scored 77 runs.

On the first ball of the 42nd over, Root, in order to increase the run rate and get a boundary, went for a reverse sweep against Phillips. But the off-spinner had fired the ball in. Root missed the ball and in went through his legs to hit the leg-stump. Phillips went on a wild run of celebration for Joe Root’s wicket.

Root top-scored for his side as England scored 282 runs.

Glenn Phillips said, “Brilliant, obviously they got off to a flyer, but our spinners and seamers in the middle overs brought us back in the game, restricting them to 280 was pleasing. When Stokes was rested, one left-hander was taken out, but Latham used his other options well. They played really well, the wicket is going to get better in the second innings. They bat so deep, keeping them to a total of under 300, it was a great effort.”
