When a batsman is in form, even luck favors him. This was proven once again when Rachin Ravindra escaped a run-out during his knock against the Netherlands after his bat got stuck well outside the crease.
Rachin Ravindra, who had put on a sensational performance on his World Cup 2023 debut against England, notched up a half-century in his second game, on Monday, against the Netherlands in Hyderabad.
The 23-year-old young left-hander, who had cracked 123* in 96 balls against the defending champions England, today played another sublime knock against the Dutch, scoring 51 runs in 51 balls with the help of 3 stylish fours and one powerful six.
He got a slice of luck as well today. In the 19th over of New Zealand’s innings, Rachin Ravindra tapped a ball from Bas de Leede in front of mid-on and set off for a quick and risky single. Teja Nidamanuru picked up the ball and hurled it toward the stumps.
When dragging his bat into the non-striker’s crease, Ravindra’s bat got stuck in the ground and he lost the bat from his hand. While his bat became airborne, Ravindra continued to run toward the non-striker’s end. To his good luck, Nidamanuru’s throw missed the stumps, otherwise, Ravindra would have been out by a short distance. Bas de Leede had his hands on his head, knowing that Rachin Ravindra had escaped a run-out.

Meanwhile, New Zealand are looking for a big total today. At the time of writing, the Kiwis have scored 238/3 in 40 overs after Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards had won the toss and elected to field first.
