Former Indian cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan has slammed Indian journalist Rajdeep Sardesai while sharing his horrifying experience of visiting Pakistan for a game of cricket as a 16-year-old. Laxman’s tweet came amidst the ongoing controversy regarding the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chants raised by the Ahmedabad crowds in the IND vs PAK World Cup 2023 clash.
For the unversed, social media has been divided into two parts over the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chants raised by the Indian fans at Mohammad Rizwan when he was on his way back to the pavilion after his dismissal. The left and right wing are busy in debating over the issue ever since the videos of the incident went viral on the internet.

Meanwhile, Rajdeep Sardesai, known for courting controversies, also joined the bandwagon and tweeted that one must not use the ‘Jai Sri Ram’ slogan as an aggressive chant to mock anyone. He further wrote that Lord Ram is Maryada Purshottam, one who brings enlightenment and does not evoke enmity. He wrote:
“Afternoon musing: in our park in the morning, we often say ‘Ram Ram’ as an affectionate greeting to each other . Why then use Jai Shri Ram as an aggressive chant to mock Pakistani players? Lord Ram is Maryada Purshottam: he must bring enlightenment, not evoke enmity. Agree?🙏”

His Tweet went viral in no time and was flooded with reactions from the fans.
However, the tweet didn’t go down well with former Indian cricketer Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, who slammed Rajdeep Sardesai highlighting the abuses he had faced on his visit to Pakistan as a 16-year-old boy. He revealed:
“What abuses I have got as a 16-year-old in Pakistan, only I know. From my colour to my religion to my country and culture. For Heaven’s sake if you have not experienced it, please don’t talk about it,”
