The Indian cricket team has taken the driver’s seat in the ongoing second Test match all thanks to the performances of India’s star openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma.
As the day kickstarted at the iconic Lord’s Stadium, the Virat Kohli-led team was asked to bat first. Openers KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma walked out to open the innings for the Indian side. The duo formed a formidable partnership and added 126 runs for the opening stand to give a terrific start to the Indian side.
Rohit Sharma was seen in a stunning form today as he defended the first hour but later he switched to the beast mode as he smashed the England bowlers to a flurry of boundaries. However, he missed out on the well-deserved century as he was dismissed after scoring 85 runs off 115 balls, smashing 11 fours and a six.
When Rohit was dismissed for 83, Rahul was batting on 33 off 118 balls, which not just shows the level of patience of the Karnataka-based cricketer but also shows how Rohit gave time to his opening partner to settle down on the field.
Following Rohit’s dismissal, Rahul constructed his innings and got to his half-century off 137 balls. But after that Rahul activated some other mode as he started smashing the England bowlers with some stunning square drives and backfoot punches.
Meanwhile, he has been receiving praises from all the corners for his ‘classy’ knock. Among many, a popular Twitter user named Amit Kumar took to his Twitter and explained how Rohit Sharma helped KL Rahul on day 1. In his tweet, Amit stated that Rohit should be credited for Rahul’s century as he gave him the much-needed time to settle down on the ground. He wrote:
Here, check out the Tweet:
KL Rahul was struggling in the earlier part of the innings but it was Rohit who gave him much needed support from the other end. Rohit took the entire load on him and score 80 and gave time to Rahul to settle. So credit of KLS Century should go to Rohit #MakeRohitIndianCaptain
