Famous commentator and former cricketer Aakash Chopra recently gave his opinion on the comparison between two of the most successful skippers of team India — MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly.

Well, earlier, former Indian cricketer and current BJP politician, Gautam Gambhir said that MS Dhoni was ‘very lucky’ as a skipper, to get a very amazing team in all the formats of the game, which eventually helped in him winning all the accolades he has won so far.

Gambhir further claimed that Dhoni reaped the benefits of the hard work that was put in by Sourav Ganguly. He said:

“Dhoni has been a very lucky captain because he got an amazing team in every format. Captaining the 2011 World Cup team was very easy for Dhoni because we had players like Sachin (Tendulkar), (Virender) Sehwag, myself, Yuvraj (Singh), Yusuf (Pathan), Virat (Kohli) so he had got the best teams. Ganguly had to work very hard for it, and as a result, Dhoni won so many trophies.”

Now Aakash Chopra opened up about the same. Aakash Chopra reckoned that MS Dhoni’s task as the captain of the national team wasn’t a cakewalk by any means.

Though, he praised Sourav Ganguly for introducing many match-winners to the Indian cricket team, but he also highlighted how it wasn’t easy for MS Dhoni as well. Praising him, Aakash Chopra said:

“He is absolutely right that Sourav Ganguly gave a lot of match-winners to India. Dada even took over the captaincy when cricket was in difficulty due to the black clouds of match-fixing hovering over it and the public’s belief lost. From that situation to develop a team that went abroad and won, the eye for talent was absolutely fantastic,”

He added:

“In my opinion, Dhoni’s task was very difficult and a person like Dhoni was only required there, who could manage the team tactically with care and also manage the transition,”

As per Aakash Chopra, Dhoni assembled the current team with a lot of love. He said:

“According to me, it is a wrong comparison and it is a slightly incorrect outcome as well. I personally don’t agree with the opinion, I feel the team that Kohli got was assembled with great love by MS Dhoni,”
