Aakash Chopra Picks Two Future Captains Of Indian Cricket Team

The concept of split captaincy in Indian cricket has been a topic of discussion lately, especially with Hardik Pandya taking over the T20I captaincy from Rohit Sharma. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra weighed in on the matter and shared his thoughts on the future of Indian cricket captaincy.

According to Chopra, Rohit Sharma is likely to continue captaining the Test team until the World Test Championship 2023. However, there might be a change in the ODI captaincy post the World Cup this year. Chopra feels that Hardik Pandya has a good chance of leading the Indian team in the T20 World Cup 2024, but the chances of him getting the ODI captaincy are less.

Chopra believes that it is unlikely that we will see a single captain for all formats just yet. He feels that the era of a single captain leading the team in all formats is over and that the Indian cricket board should consider adopting split captaincy.

When it comes to the future of Indian cricket captaincy, Chopra names two young cricketers – Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant – as his top choices for India’s future captaincy. Chopra believes that in the long term, these two players will be leading the Indian team in the future.

Recently, senior wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik also shared his thoughts on split captaincy in Indian cricket. He believes that the Indian cricket board should take a decision based on the result of the ODI World Cup and that Rohit Sharma should continue as India’s all-format captain till then.

In conclusion, the split captaincy concept is something that is being increasingly considered in Indian cricket. While some believe that a single captain for all formats is the way to go, others believe that split captaincy could bring the best out of the Indian cricket team. Only time will tell how the Indian cricket board will approach the matter, but one thing is for sure, the future of Indian cricket captaincy is an exciting topic to follow.
