Aakash Chopra Slammed BCCI For Ignoring Mohammed Shami From Indian Squad For Asia Cup 2022

Aakash Chopra Slammed Team Management For Ignoring Mohammed Shami: The BCCI announced India’s Asia Cup squad 2022 on Monday, 7 August. The team, led by Rohit Sharma, saw the return of main players — Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. However, one of the biggest shockers the squad had was the lack of fast bowling options.

As per the latest update, Jasprit is set to be ruled out of the Asia Cup T20 tournament with a back injury, which would require some time to heal. A senior official of the BCCI told PTI, on the condition of anonymity, about the injury of Jasprit Bumrah. He revealed:“Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before T20 World Cup. WE can’t risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate,”

Besides Jasprit Bumrah, there is no Mohammed Shami in the pace attack and that has become one of the most talked about topics now.  Discussing the exclusion on Hotstar, Aakash Chopra said that it was beyond him, why Shami had been excluded. Aakash Chopra also raised questions about Mohammed Shami’s absence from the team. He said:

“Why everybody has forgotten about Mohammed Shami is beyond me. He has performed well, his IPL numbers are great. I think if it was a race between Avesh Khan and Mohammed Shami, I will go with Mohammed Shami with my eyes closed. Nothing against Avesh, but I feel that Shami should have been given a chance with the new ball in the absence of a Jasprit Bumrah,” said Aakash Chopra.

Aakash also took to his Twitter and shared his major concerns after the Team was announced. He said:

“Only three pacers in the squad…it’s DXB where there’s more for the pacers than spinners at this time of the year. That’s my only concern. #AsiaCup #India”
