India’s wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal’s non-inclusion in the Indian squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 has become one of the most talked-about topics ahead of the marquee tournament, considering there’s not a single leg-spinner in the squad that was picked. Several experts and cricketers have expressed their astonishment at Chahal’s absence and the latest one to talk about the case is his Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) teammate AB de Villiers.
AB de Villiers Gave His Verdict On Yuzvendra Chahal’s Snub From Asia Cup 2023
AB de Villiers also admitted being ‘disappointed’ not to see the spinner’s name in India’s squad. Over the years, Chahal has been one of the mainstays in India’s white-ball teams. However, for some reason or the other, he has been ignored for all-important tournaments. He is yet to play in a single ICC event for the national team.
In a video on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers expressed his disappointment over Chahal’s non-inclusion. He said:
“Chahal has been dropped, selectors making their intentions clear who they will be picking. It’s a bit of a disappointing drop for me, Yuzi is always very handy and it’s great to have the leg-spinning option in your team. We know how skilful he is,”
Ignoring Yuzvendra Chahal, the selectors went ahead with the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav as the premier spin bowling options for the continental tournament. Prasidh Krishna was chosen as the fifth seam bowling option.
India’s campaign in the Asia Cup will kick off with a high-stakes match against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2. The Indian squad is a blend of seasoned campaigners and emerging talents, which reflects the deep reservoir of cricketing talent and prowess of the nation.
