AB de Villiers Discloses The Moment Of Virat Kohli's ODI Retirement
Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has created a heated debate in the cricketing world by making a bold declaration about Virat Kohli’s likely retirement from One Day Internationals (ODIs). De Villiers believes that if India wins the ICC World Cup in 2023, it would be the ideal moment for the country’s star batter, Virat Kohli, to consider retiring from ODI cricket. Since then, the cricketing community, fans, and commentators have been humming with conjecture.
Virat Kohli, widely recognised as one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history, has been the backbone of the Indian cricket team for over a decade. His persistent dedication, incredible consistency, and great talents have cemented his place as a cricketing icon. However, after a nearly 15-year career, it’s normal to contemplate the eventual end of his playing days.
One reason that guarantees Virat Kohli’s longevity is his remarkable fitness levels. Because of his commitment to being in top physical shape, several experts feel he may play well into his 40s. This unrivalled fitness has often served as his hidden weapon, helping him to dominate the cricketing scene for many years.

AB de Villiers Discloses The Moment Of Virat Kohli’s ODI Retirement

AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli’s close friend and former colleague, brought up an intriguing part of Kohli’s future. He said that after the ICC World Cup in 2023, Kohli may consider retiring from ODIs and T20Is to concentrate on his Test career. De Villiers also praised the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for their strategic decision to rest Kohli on a regular basis in order to retain his energy.

He said: “I know he loves travelling to South Africa, but it’s very difficult to say. It is a long time away. Let’s focus on this one first, I think that’s what Virat Kohli would tell you. I think if they win this World Cup, it might not be a bad time to say, ‘Thank you very much.

“I am maybe just going to play Test cricket for the next few years and a little bit of IPL, enjoy the last bit of my career, have enough family time, and say goodbye to everyone. But he is in incredible shape and is mentally still there. He has been rested from time to time, which I think is a great move. So, I think the hunger and the fire will still be there.”
The 2027 Cricket World Cup will be held in South Africa. It is unclear if Virat Kohli would be a part of the extravaganza. If he plays in the competition, his performance will be crucial in deciding India’s prospects of triumph. Kohli’s form on the pitch will surely be crucial in determining the team’s fate.
A fan once asked AB de Villiers whether Virat Kohli aspired to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries in international cricket. De Villiers reacted by emphasising Kohli’s team-first attitude, claiming that individual accomplishments were not his major priority.
Virat Kohli is now two centuries short of surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries. Kohli now has an astounding record of 77 hundred, demonstrating his exceptional batting skill. Cricket fans all across the globe are looking forward to his quest to write his name in the annals of cricket history.
