Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has provided valuable advice to Dewald Brevis, who is experiencing a form slump in SA20 2024. De Villiers shared that he encouraged the young batter to stay positive, assuring him that he is on the verge of returning to his best.
Mumbai Indians’ Cape Town batter, Dewald Brevis, is encountering difficulties in finding form during the ongoing SA20. Struggling to score runs, he seems to be in poor touch, grappling with challenges posed by the bowlers.
Dewald Brevis, often compared to Baby AB de Villiers, has been going through a challenging phase in recent months. In the current tournament, he has managed only 28 runs in four games, with a highest score of just 10, highlighting his ongoing struggles.

AB de Villiers Takes Responsibility For Dewald Brevis Pressure; Offers Advice

AB de Villiers, serving as a mentor to Dewald Brevis, shared that he sent a text to the young talent, urging him to maintain a positive mindset and focus on one ball at a time. De Villiers mentioned that the right-hander acknowledged the advice with a heart emoji. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, he elaborated on this, stating:

“I texted him last night, I said ‘ You’re close! Keep your head up. Keep going one ball at a time.’ He replied with ‘I will do that. Thank you very much’ with a heart emoji.”

AB de Villiers expressed his belief that Dewald Brevis seems a bit rushed in his approach. De Villiers acknowledged that the young batter might be feeling the weight on his shoulders, especially due to the comparisons with him as “Baby AB.” He emphasized that labeling Brevis in this way has added significant pressure on the emerging cricketer. He said:

“He (Brevis) is in a bit of a hurry. He is a young man and it’s understandable. He has a lot of weight in his shoulders, largely because of me. I am so sorry about that. All these people who put so much attention on him adds to the pressure. He knows how fickle the game of cricket is. It is about millimeters.”

Dewald Brevis has been disappointing lately. If his poor form continues, he might be benched like last year in the IPL
