Young Abhishek Porel played a quick innings, helping Delhi Capitals (DC) reach a total of 174 runs with the loss of nine wickets. Despite Punjab Kings (PBKS) bowlers performing well, DC managed to post a competitive score in the first innings of their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match on Saturday.

PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and chose to field first at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Australian batters David Warner and Mitchell Marsh opened the innings for DC and started aggressively, forming a 39-run partnership.
DC skipper Rishabh Pant came to bat after the second wicket fell but could only manage to score 18 runs in the match, hitting two fours. It’s worth mentioning that Pant missed the last season due to injuries sustained in a car accident in December 2022.

Star Indian all-rounder Axar Patel contributed crucially with 21 runs off 13 balls, including two fours and a six. Towards the end of the innings, Abhishek Porel was brought in as an impact player instead of Ricky Bhui. Porel played an unbeaten and quick innings of 32 runs off just 10 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes, at an impressive strike rate of 320.
The hosts saw Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel take two wickets each in their four-over spells, conceding 28 runs and 47 runs, respectively. Kagiso Rabada, Harpreet, and Rahul Chahar each grabbed one wicket in their spells.
