Abhishek Sharma has had a good start to his international career. After India won the T20 World Cup 2024, senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from international cricket. It is now the turn of the young cricketers to stake their claim in the playing XI ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 in India. India have started their preparations with a 5 game T20I series against Zimbabwe.

Abhishek Sharma is one of the players who has got his chance in the Indian team. In the first T20I against Zimbabwe, he returned for a duck. However, in the second game, he displayed his potential and proved why he is rated so high. Sharma scored 100 runs off just 47 balls with 7 fours and eight sixes. He was at his destructive best and smashed the bowlers to all parts of the ground.

Sharma stated that he played in the second T20I with the bat of Shubman Gill. Gill is leading the young Indian team in this T20I series. Sharma said that whenever he is short of runs, he asks Gill for his bat. He also talked about the whole team was disappointed after the loss in the first T20I of the series. He wanted to make it count in the second T20I, and he got the momentum to his side. He also thanked the team management for trusting him with his abilities.

Abhishek Sharma said: “I played with Shubman’s (Gill) bat today; I did it earlier also. Whenever I need runs, I ask for his bat. I think it was a pretty good performance by me, the defeat we had yesterday, it wasn’t easy for us. I felt today it was my day and I made it count. I feel T20 is about momentum and I took it to the end. Special mention to the coaches, captains and the team management to keep confidence. I always believe in my ability, if it’s in my arc and even if it’s the first ball, I will go after it.”
