INDvsWI: Ajinkya Rahane Takes An Incredible One-Handed Catch At First Slip

On Day 3 of the ongoing 2nd Test between India and West Indies in Port of Spain, India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane took an outstanding one-handed catch to dismiss WI batsman Jermaine Blackwood.

Hailed as best slip fielder in this Indian Test team and one of the safest catchers in the world, Ajinkya Rahane took this jaw-dropping catch of Jermaine Blackwood, flying to his left with his left-hand out, to Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. This stunned the batsman Jermaine Blackwood who stood at his crease for a while before trudging for his long walk back to the dressing room while Ajinkya Rahane and the Indian players celebrated animatedly.

The delivery from Jadeja pitched on leg and turned away significantly. Blackwood gets forward to block but the vicious turn takes a soft outside edge. Rahane at first slip showed great reflexes to judge the ball quickly and put in a dive with his left hand moving toward the ball.

The ball is cupped in his left hand and even as Rahane falls on the ground, he keeps the ball in his palm to complete a blinder of a catch. Replays showed that the ball had also brushed the keeper’s glove, making this catch from Rahane even more sensational.

West Indies alive in the match through attritional batting

The West Indies batters fought back for the first time in the series and showed tenacity in them through attritional batting on a rain-hit Day 3, keeping the hopes of making a draw alive. West Indies scored only 143 runs in the 67 overs bowled in the day’s play.

In reply to India’s 438, WI skipper Kraigg Brathwaite scored 75 off 235 balls. The next four batters also got starts, but none of them could reach a fifty. Heading into Day 4, the hosts will bank on Alick Athanaze (37*) and Jason Holder (11*) to lead them closer to India’s first-innings score. WI train by 209 runs with 5 wickets in hand.
