IPL began in the year 2008, with a unique concept of eight city-based franchises competing against each other in a tournament where the active Indian players would play with foreign players in the same team. The concept proved to be a massive hit as IPL is currently one of the most valuable tournaments in the world.

To win the Orange Cap and the Purple Cap in the IPL is the dream of every individual who plays in the competition. So far, many legendary players have won this award and here’s a look at an all-time IPL XI consisting players who have won Orange and Purple Cap.

Openers – Chris Gayle and Sachin Tendulkar

Chris Gayle did not perform well in the first three seasons of IPL. However, after moving to RCB he became the most dangerous batsman in the competition. He broke several records and even won the Orange Cap award twice. In 2010, Sachin Tendulkar had become the first Indian batsman to win an Orange Cap award. He proved that he can play well in all formats of the game by scoring 618 runs that year.

Middle Order – Virat Kohli, Shaun Marsh, Robin Uthappa, and Micheal Hussey

Virat Kohli holds the record for the most runs by a single player in an IPL season. The right-handed batsman scored 973 runs while playing for RCB in 2016. He narrowly missed out on the 1000 runs milestone.

Shaun Marsh was the inaugural winner of the Orange Cap. He surprised everyone with his performance for KXIP in 2008. Quite shockingly, none of the franchises have shown interest in the Aussie after Punjab released him. Robin Uthappa is the only player in IPL history who won the Orange Cap the same year his franchise won the tournament. He achieved this feat, playing for KKR in 2014.

Michael Hussey is nicknamed as Mr. Cricket and he showed everyone why he is called by that name with his brilliant performance for Chennai. The left-handed batsman scored 733 runs in 16 games.

Lower Order – DJ Bravo, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Imran Tahir, and Lasith Malinga, Pragyan Ojha

DJ Bravo will play the role of the finisher for this team along with bowling in the death. He won the Purple Cap in 2013 after dismissing a record 32 batsmen in the tournament. His CSK teammate Imran Tahir will lead the spin bowling attack and will have the back of former Deccan Chargers star Pragyan Ojha. They are the only two spinners to win Purple Cap award.

Lasith Malinga and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the pace bowling. Kumar is a 2-time IPL Purple Cap winner, while Malinga won that award in 2011 and he is also leading wicket-taker in IPL history.
