The Indian Test skipper, Virat Kohli might not be the best captain to have led the Indian cricket team but there is no denying the fact that he is responsible for transforming the Indian cricket team in terms of fitness and also for some of the finest cricket the Indian team has played in Test cricket. The Virat Kohli-led Indian side ended the year as the No. 1-ranked Test team, having won back-to-back series wins in Australia, having England on their soil.

The Indian team is now all set to lock horns with South Africa in the upcoming 3-match Test series which will begin with the much-awaited Boxing Day Test in Centurion. Ahead of the much-awaited series between India and South Africa, former fast bowler and one of the greatest pacers, Allan Donald has hailed the Indian skipper for changing the fortunes of the Indian cricket team.

Allan Donald, who is fondly called ‘The White Lightening’, recalled how a statement from skipper Virat Kohli during the 2017/18 tour has gone a long way in transforming team India into a formidable unit. He said:

“There is no doubt this is one of the marquee series in the world game and we can look forward to an incredible battle over the summer,”

He added:

“Kohli’s comments a few years ago were that you’ll never be classed as a great side if you don’t win away from home and that has been something he really worked towards. You saw them win in Australia and also reach the WTC (World Test Championship) Final. This is a quality Indian team that is here. I’m looking forward to it,”

For the unversed, Donald is referring to the year 2018, when the Indian side lost the Test series in South Africa 1-2. But as Kohli mentioned back then, it was the start of a new era.

“South Africa was really the start for us as a team, travelling and starting to believe we can win series overseas,”Kohli had said. “We built it up nicely in England, and Australia was an accumulation of all those efforts,” Kohli said.
