You know that if India has been deemed invincible in the roster of modern cricket, that is because you two have the artists of such dominance. May it be with the bat or in the field, you guys have always exemplified giving your best on the field.
However, these are tough and strange times. With so many rumours around us, unless there is a clarification of what unspooled inside the BCCI meeting, the Indian audience will make up their own versions of the truth and cook up something that wasn’t even there.
But, this, this letter is for you two. Honestly, there are a lot of youngsters in the upcoming rosters for India, but thinking India without the iconic duo of Kohli and Rohit makes my blood curdle.
You both are the finest examples of what dangerous batting should look like. You two are what bowlers envisage as the beasts of the folklore coming alive.
You two are the burning testament of brilliance, leading a nation where cricket is a religion to countless shrines of excellence and glory.
You two have been the spine of India’s rollicking blinders at the opening of the innings. You two have been an opposition’s worst nightmare.
And yet, here we are where people are cooking rumours of a brewing feud between you two. It is sad and being candid, listening to so many of them throughout the day makes me afraid.
If losing Dhoni a few years back to the ineluctable vice of age wasn’t a nightmare already, even the mere thought of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli rattling their friendship because of something that wasn’t even there makes me and every Indian cricket fan petrified.
It is an earnest request to you both that please do not listen to all the bad things that others have to say. You are the artists who once again instilled hope in us, the Indian fans.
You became the Gods where our religion shifted from the four walls of a shrine to the mighty fine verdant lush green of Eden Gardens and Wankhede.
The spectacle of you effortlessly painting the green canvas with your excellence became a habit. The sweet sounds of the ball kissing the middle of your bat and racing away to the ropes were dearer to me than music.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, no matter who says what, no matter what dark and the dirty game is being stitched under the wraps, you two, please do not become foes. That will not just break my heart but a billion dreams who once again believed that the world can be ours only if you two kept on condemning the bowlers to the rope.
You two-Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli-we will love you no matter what. Please stay with us like the way you were and we will do everything that would turn the thorns in your path into beautiful roses.
