An Open Letter To Sarfaraz Khan – The Man Who Never Gave Up Hope

Dear Sarfaraz Khan,

You know when the times get darker and no matter what you do, it doesn’t count, no matter how hard you work, you still don’t see the light of the day, believe me, it is difficult to go on like that. It is difficult to find that last ray of hope. It just feels that all will be lost and no one is coming to save you. Every body says, hang in there. Only the one who hangs in there knows how difficult it gets.

Yesterday, when you were handed over the maiden Test cap, like the way your father sobbed uncontrollably, venting out the tears of joy which were pent up for an eternity, it felt very personal. A young man, who has been denied time and time again, a man who has been let down by the board despite reckoning displays in the domestic circuit, a man who has failed to find the opening despite smashing a boatload of runs, for him hanging on becomes a luxury.

But you know as they say, when you want something from the heart, when you are destined to be the King, even if the entire world stands against you, you will get there. No one can snatch what is yours. Even it takes an eternity, it will find its way to you. It will find its way to you.

You know it probably is too early to say this but I have no hesitation in calling you my muse already. The way you waited out in the center, the way you hung in there, the resilience, the belief, the emotions running wild and even when you got that call up in the national team, the fact that you rushed to your father just shows that how you don’t forget your roots.

Sarfaraz Khan, the dream doesn’t always come true for everyone. It comes true for a select few. But when it comes, it comes in waves. It is not going to be easy for you. We know that you are a very strong lad but it is important that you stay rooted stringer than a mountain. The wave may sweep you off too but you need to be there and you need to be there all guns blazing.

We talk a lot about Bazball, but time is near when we start talking about Safball and I personally will love to send a letter to you. Sarfaraz Khan, you are here to stay and I will pray with my hands on my hear that this new kid on the block should continue what he has been doing for an eternity now.

Yours sincerely,

A crazy cricket fan in India
