Angry fans on social media slammed former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and his co-commentators for mocking and laughing at England skipper Joe Root, who was struggling in pain after being hit on the ‘box’ by a deadly delivery from Australian left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc on Day 4 of the 2nd Ashes Test match between England and Australia.
Well, the awkward moment took place during England’s second innings on Day 4 of the ongoing second Ashes Test at the Adelaide Oval when Root was struck on the box by a delivery from Mitchell Starc. Following this, Joe Root continued batting, however, he was seen limping and was struggling to take the run.
While Root was clearly in pain, the commentators on-air chose to mock the England captain and saw the funny side of this incident. All the three commentators including former Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting were seen laughing out at the expense of Joe Root. The video of the incident has been going crazily viral on social media.

Meanwhile, the fans were not at all happy with the way Ricky Ponting and other commentators reacted to the incident. There were many who highlighted how it must have been an awkward moment for Root, who was in pain, and that there was no need for the commentators to mock him. Several fans even lauded the fighting spirit of Joe Root, who kept on batting despite injury and slammed the commentators were busy cracking a joke.
Here, check out the reactions of Twitterati on this:
The captain who is also the only promising player in that squad trying to do something even with some serious injury, and these pundits opt to crack a joke out of it.

This does not look in good taste at all.
Root was hurt, down for 5 mins, got up and continued the fight for his team.
Show him some respect. pic.twitter.com/tALijWEmji— @bH!$h€K (@iKumar_Abhi) December 20, 2021
#Ashes2021 #ENGvsAUS Such smiles on the face of Aussie commentators can only be seen against Eng and rest teams, not against #India. India team is the only team that can challenge the Arrogant and Uncivilized Australian Cricket Team.
