Rohit Sharma has had a lossless start to his full-time India captaincy career. Cleansweeps over New Zealand, West Indies, and Sri Lanka in white-ball matches was followed by a massive win over the Lankans in Rohit’s Test captaincy debut in Mohali.

However, his batting seems to have taken a hit of the captaincy pressure. Rohit was dismissed for a score of 15 in the second Test in Bangalore despite looking good, hitting a four and a pull shot six, early on.

Since taking up the captaincy, Rohit hasn’t shown the kind of form he had been until last year. In 2022. in 11 innings, Sharma has scored 238 runs, at a much-below-his-standard average of 21.63, with just one half-century to his name this year. His scores this year read: 15, 29, 5 , 1, 44, 7 , 19 , 40, 13, 5, 60.

A Twitter user, by the handle of @Mufaddal_Vohra2, opined that Rohit Sharma is getting bogged down by the pressure of captaincy of all three formats and he believes is affecting the opener’s batting.

“Captaincy pressure of 3 formats must be one of the reason of such increase of failures,” the fan tweeted.

Unreal downfall of Rohit Sharma since the time became the captain. Truly, not everyone can handle the captaincy pressure the way Virat Kohli and Ricky Ponting did.

The managing of Sharma’s workload – he now leads India in all three formats and Mumbai Indians in the IPL, and his fitness has also raised many questions in recent years – will be important.

Speaking about the same topic last month, Rohit Sharma said that currently there are no issues with his fitness having recovered from a hamstring injury that saw him miss the South Africa tour. He added that he will be taking breaks whenever needed.

“As far as I am concerned, at the moment there are no issues. I am looking forward to playing all the games. The workload always depends on what happens thereafter. You take it day by day, and understand what you need to do. If there is an opportunity for you to take a break, you will take the break and let someone get in and see how what kind of potential the other guy filling in has. Those are the things. But at the moment it seems to be okay,” Rohit said last month.
