Nowadays with advent of social media people feel free to pen down their thoughts and give advice and suggestions. Twitter is such a platform and it witnesses new social wars each day. We have earlier witnessed many cricketers involving in a war of wits, but this time it was former Pakistan team head coach Waqar Younis himself.

A few days ago, Waqar tweeted to the ICC that the matches in the Women’s World Cup should be reduced to 30 overs per side. While Waqar did not elaborate further on his proposal, his tweet created a huge storm on social media.

The former Pakistani captain tweeted: “@ICC What abt having 30 overs Cricket World Cup 4 Women???Like Tennis 3 sets rather then 5 #Suggestion I feel 50 overs r few 2many #WWCUP17”

Sri Lankan women cricketer, Sripali Weerakkody took offence to Waqar’s tweet and challenged him that her teammate Chamar Athapaththu, who scored 178* against Australia women in the tournament, can smash him for a six any day of the week.

She tweeted, “I challenge you to bowl to Athapaththu @waqyounis99 she will hit you for six any day of the week.”

But Waqar didn’t stop there, and went to explain his point further. He wrote,“Lesser overs mean faster pace,, more audience,,competitive Cricket,,no discrimination or prejudice toward Women #AlwaysRespectWomen #WWCUP17”
