Ian Bishop Revealed Why Sachin Cried After Arjun Tendulkar’s First Over

Son of the greatest batsman ever Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun Tendulkar made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2023 match against Kolkata Knight Riders. Like every father proud of his son, Sachin Tendulkar too got emotional about his son’s big achievement. The Tendulkars, Sachin and Arjun, also became the first father-son pair to have featured in the IPL.

In Arjun’s second match, against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad, commentator Ian Bishop was heard saying that Sachin Tendulkar even shed a few tears from his eyes upon seeing Arjun make his MI debut, a decade Tendulkar himself played his last IPL match.

Interestingly, it was also pointed out, both Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun gave only 5 overs in their first over in their respective IPL careers.Sachin Tendulkar bowled in the IPL for the first time in April 2009, coincidentally, in a league game against KKR. He was the Player Of the Match in that game for scoring 68 (45), but he also bowled a couple of overs, and his first over, like Arjun’s first over, yielded 5 runs for KKR. Speaking of Arjun, the 23-year-old left-arm seamer bowled a 2-over spell with the new ball. He was impressive with some swing and seam movement he got with the new ball and returned with figures of 0/17. He didn’t get to bowl later on.

Sachin Tendulkar makes an interesting revelation about never watching Arjun Tendulkar play

After the match, sitting in the dugout along with Arjun and speaking in a video for the IPL, Sachin Tendulkar made a startling revelation about his emotions about Arjun playing cricket.

He said that to not let Arjun get distracted, he never went to see him play! In fact, even during Arjun’s debut for MI, Sachin Tendulkar sat in the dressing room and not in the dug out, lest the camera show him on the giant screen and Arjun might get distracted.

“This was a new experience for me. Till now, I have not actually gone and watched him play,” Sachin Tendulkar  said in a video posted on IPL Twitter handle.

“I just wanted him to have that freedom to go out and express himself whatever he wanted to do. And today also I sat in the dressing room because I didn’t want him to let him move away from his plans and start looking at the mega screen here and suddenly realised that I was watching there. I was inside,” he added.

“It’s a different feeling because 2008 was the first season for me and 16 years down the line, he plays for the same team. Not bad.”

Mumbai Indians won the match by 5 wickets as Venkatesh Iyer’s century went in vain.
