The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the candidates for the Men’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award on Wednesday and one Indian player has managed to find a place in it. The candidates for the prize are Marco Jansen of South Africa, Arshdeep Singh of India, Finn Allen of New Zealand, and Ibrahim Zadran of Afghanistan.

Arshdeep Singh, the left-arm pacer, who made his international debut in July 2022 on England tour, has now become an integral part of India’s white-ball set-up. He has impressed one and all with his consistent performances, providing crucial breakthroughs both with the new and old ball. And this nomination by the ICC for the Emerging Cricketer of the Year is the cherry on top of the cake for the young star.

He earned the Indian call-up after an impressive show for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League for the last few seasons and it took less than 6 months for Arshdeep Singh after his international debut to make it to the shortlist. So far, in his short career, he has picked 33 wickets at an average of 18.12 in 21 T20Is.

He made the most of the opportunities he got. Arshdeep was even the silver lining in the dark clouds in the T20 World Cup 2022, where the Indian cricket team suffered an early exit. He was even the leading wicket-taker for India in the T20 World Cup with 10 scalps.

He has given many memorable performances, including the high-pressure T20 game against Pakistan at the MCG. In the game against Pakistan, Arshdeep finished with figures of 3.32 from his four-over quota as he dismissed Babar Azam with his first ball lbw before taking the wicket of Mohammad Rizwan at the end of his next over. In the death overs, he managed to get the crucial wicket of Asif Ali.

Meanwhile, the voting for the award will begin in January, said the ICC in a release.
